What is an electronic component?

The basic parts used to manufacture or assemble the electronic machine are called electronic components, and components are independent individuals in electronic circuits.
Is there a difference between electronic components and devices?

It is true that some people distinguish electronic components as components and devices from different perspectives.

Some people distinguish them from the manufacturing point of view
Components: Electronic products that are manufactured without changing the molecular structure of the material are called components.

Device: A product that changes the molecular structure of a material when it is manufactured is called a device.
However, the manufacturing of modern electronic components involves many physicochemical processes, and many electronic functional materials are inorganic non-metallic materials, and the manufacturing process is always accompanied by changes in the crystal structure.

Obviously, this distinction is not scientific.
Some people distinguish from the structural unit perspective
Component: A product with only a single structural mode and a single performance characteristic is called a component.

Device: A product that consists of two or more components combined to form a product with different performance characteristics than a single component is called a device.
According to this distinction, resistors, capacitors, etc. belong to the components, but resistors, capacitors and the call with the concept of "device" confusion, and with the emergence of resistance, capacitance and other arrays of resistance components, this distinction method becomes unreasonable.

Some people distinguish from the response to the circuit
Current through it can produce frequency amplitude changes or change the flow of individual parts called devices, otherwise called components.

Such as triode, thyristor and integrated circuit are devices, while resistors, capacitors, inductors, etc. are components.

This distinction is similar to the international classification of common active and passive components.

In fact, it is difficult to clearly distinguish between components and devices, so collectively called components, referred to as components on!
What is a discrete component?
Discrete components are the opposite of integrated circuits (ICs).
Electronic industry development technology, due to the emergence of semiconductor integrated circuits, electronic circuits have two major branches: integrated circuits and discrete components circuit.
Integrated circuit (IC Integrated Circuit) is a type of circuit required in the transistor, resistance and capacitive sense components and wiring interconnected together, made in a small or several small semiconductor wafer or dielectric substrate, packaged as a whole, with the circuit function of electronic components.

Discrete components
Discrete components are common electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, transistors, etc., collectively referred to as discrete components. Discrete components are single-function, "minimum" components, no longer have other components inside the functional unit.

Active components and passive components of the distinction
The international electronic components have such a classification method
Active Components: Active Components refers to the components that are able to perform active functions such as amplification of electrical signals, oscillation, control of current or energy distribution, and even execution of data operations and processing when energy is supplied.

Active components include various types of transistors, integrated circuits (ICs), video tubes, and displays.
Passive Components: Passive Components, in contrast to active components, are components that cannot be excited to amplify or oscillate electrical signals, and whose response to electrical signals is passive and submissive, and whose electrical signals pass through electronic components according to their original basic characteristics.
The most common resistors, capacitors, inductors, etc. are passive components.
Active components and passive components of the distinction
Corresponding to the international distinction between active and passive components, mainland China is usually called active and passive devices
Active components
Active components correspond to active components.
Triode, thyristor and integrated circuit and other such electronic components work, in addition to the input signal, must also have the excitation power to work properly, so called active devices.
Active devices also consume electrical energy themselves, and high-power active devices are usually equipped with heat sinks.
Passive components
Passive components are the opposite of passive components.
Resistors, capacitors and inductors can perform the required functions when there is a signal in the circuit, and do not require an external excitation power supply, so they are called passive devices.
Passive components consume very little electrical energy themselves, or convert electrical energy into other forms of energy.
Distinction between circuit-based and connection-based components
Passive devices in electronic systems can be divided into circuit-type devices and connection-type devices according to the circuit function they perform.
